OLD SCHOOL IPHONE

It’s a total hash of digital and analog ideologies and still looks uber-cool! I guess this is what an iPhone-esque phone would have looked like in the 80’s. Calling itself the Touch Screen Rotary, this phone is a Retro Blast but with modern functionality. Needless to say, touch controls on the rotary are there and so is a backlit screen. If you plan on calling me on this phone I will know it’s you thanks to the incoming caller ID.

For the externals the designer proposes a highly polished ABS lined with a frosted polycarbonate base that glows each time a call comes in. VOIP or landline, the phone swings both ways!

Sony PlayStation Portable PSP Go Latest Brand New Model – Stylishly Sleek, Slim Lite, Gaming Console

The Computer Entertainment and handheld gaming consoles division of Sony Corporation have announced an absolutely new version of PSP model, the Sony PSP Go. The newest member of the PSP family sports an all new stylish look and sleek design to impress its owner and everyone around it.

The PSP go features a 3.8” slide-out display which also functions as a touch screen for some exclusive applications and covers the modishly designed buttons underneath its slide. It’s a completely new and digital mode of entertainment for handheld gaming devices.
Sony has ditched the conventional UMD drives of the PSP for the sake of an internal flash memory unit, so there is no opening for UMDs on its back. Instead, a built in memory of 16GB will provide you with plenty of storage space to store your favorite images, music and videos. If you are thinking that you will run out of memory, then try the expandable memory (micro SD card) that fits into the memory slot at its side. The flash memory storage will enable cheaper and faster digital downloads for games, videos, TV shows and music from the Sony’s PlayStation Store.
With 128MB of RAM, the PSP Go is sure to deliver a rich gaming experience. Since UMDs are out of the league, new games are being released for the PSP Go which includes ‘Gran Turismo 4’, Metal Gear Solid, MotorStorm Arctic Edge, Assassin’s Creed, Rock Band Unplugged and Madden NFL 10 and also the PSP Go version of the popular PS3 game, LittleBigPlanet. All these can be directly downloaded to the PSP over the wireless network.
While PSP 3000 and other PSP models will still hold their place in the market, official reports have confirmed that the PSP Go will be unveiled at E3 2009 Summit in June 2009. Though it is set to release in the Japanese Markets in the wake of September, it is slated for launch in the United States and some other parts of the globe on Oct 1 2009 and will be available at a price tag of $249.

Samsung unveils new ST550 and ST500 digital cameras

Samsung Electronics, the global leader in consumer electronics and advanced technology solutions, unveiled the ST550 and ST500 dual LCD digital cameras at an exclusive launch at Hive Lounge Bar in Souk Al Bahar yesterday.

With one LCD on the front of the camera, and a second one on the back of the camera, Samsung now gives consumers the ability to truly step out from behind the camera and put themselves in the picture.

Twice the fun as any other compact digital camera, Samsung's innovative ST550 and ST500 both feature a 1.5" LCD located on the front of the camera allowing consumers to take first-rate photos whether they are behind the camera or in front of it.

Samsung's new ST550 also features a 3.5" wide touch-screen back LCD. At 1,152K resolution, the ST550's LCD delivers almost four times more resolution than traditional cameras and also comes complete with haptic vibration feedback for ease of use. A 12.2 mega-pixel CCD and 27mm wide-angle Schneider-KREUZNACH lens with 4.6x optical zoom gives a wider shooting range from a shorter distance producing clear, clean images with balanced resolution from the center of the image to the edges.

"We've listened to what consumers want and need, particuarly in the social networking field, and I expect these latest products to surpass even the highest expectations of today's budding photographer, guaranteeing fun and excitement to the user," said Ram Modak, General Manager, Digital Media Business, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

"It has become more common for the photographer to switch roles and become the subject of his or her photo, especially given the rise in popularity of self-portraits or profile pictures for use with today's popular social networking sites. The Dual LCD on the ST550 and ST500 allows consumers to become part of the picture in a way that they simply were unable to do so before. These cameras will be must-haves for those individuals that use popular social networking websites and for families that want to get everyone, including the photographer, in the picture."

Showcasing further innovations, Samsung's Smart Gesture User Interface (UI) with built-in Gravity sensor means that once the camera is on, a simple tap on the front LCD turns it on and the camera is automatically set into self portrait mode with smile detection.

This means if users want to take a self portrait, they only need to tap and smile and the picture will be taken automatically, without pressing the shutter button. Teamed with innovative Samsung technologies such as Smile Shot, Smart Face Recognition and Smart Auto, users are given the ability to take the perfect image with ease.

Samsung's innovative Smart Face Recognition technology will memorise up to 20 faces and adjust the focus and exposure to the most high-ranked faces on the camera. It allows users to sort images by registered faces and scroll through to find images of people in their Smart Album instead of viewing every single photo.

Alongside professional-grade photos, the ST550 and ST500 record 720p HD video at 30 frames-per-second in H.264 format, providing twice as much recording capacity as MPEG4 format, and four times more than using MJPEG format, all in the palm of your hand. HDMI connectivity means that your HD videos can be enjoyed on any HDTV or HD Monitor.

INTRODUCING THE MICROPACER

The only thing better than new technology is old technology. Add the term "vintage," price it at a premium and watch us geeks drool. Generally, sports technology isn't old enough to go retro; Adidas begs to differ with the return of its 1984 Micropacer shoe.

Predating today's growing pedometer obsession by two decades, the Micropacer was the first shoe to implant a microchip in the big toe area, which registered steps each time the wearer pushed off. Adidas stopped making the shoe in 1987 but has since introduced limited re-launches over the past few years. Its newest batch of 500 (available at just 80 stores worldwide) comes in blue suede at $350 a pop.

Ironically, the retro technology is pricier than the latest microchip endeavor by Adidas. The 2005 Adidas 1 used a sensor to automatically adjust the stiffness of the heel based on the running surface but can be found on eBay for $100. Get yours quick though; if history's any judge, in twenty years you’ll be paying at least twice that.
